about

1. And secondly, the second Infantjoy album, With, is like a ghost of the first Infantjoy album, Where The Night Goes.

It is a sequel. It is a series of echoes and reminders and memories of the first album.

At no point before the making of With did it occur to us as Infantjoy that we would be making this kind of LP - it perhaps occurred to us during the making, as we compiled and commissioned various sounds, and these sounds seemed to connect to the sounds on the first album, they were related, they referred to, they carried on the ideas on that first album.

The first album was inspired by Erik Satie, and in a way this album was initially inspired by the idea of how we would progress beyond Satie, beyond his world, and out into our own world.

We began recording with the idea that this would be a radical move away from our version of the sound of Satie. Midway through the compiling, creating and considering of With, it occurred to us that in fact the move away from Satie should be done in a more appropriately slow and sensitive way - a sort of morph from one thing to another, from one sound to another, and that our second album was going to be the soundtrack to the idea that we were leaving Satie behind.

With 'With' we were leaving the station of Satie, and waving goodbye to the body of Satie, and saying hello to new neighbours, and spotting new sights, and trapping new influences, but Satie would still be leaving an impression.
